Yolk House

A Timeless Home Designed for Family, Comfort, and Legacy

Some homes are built for today, while others are designed to last for generations. Yolk House is one of those special homes—a place that works beautifully for its owner now and will continue to be a cherished family home for years to come.

Nestled near a peaceful river estuary in Mt Martha, this home belongs to a woman who values family, comfort, and the future. She lives here every day, enjoying a space that is easy to move through, low-maintenance, and perfectly suited to her needs. But on weekends and holidays, her house transforms—welcoming children, grandchildren, and extended family who gather to share meals, stories, and memories.

She wanted her home to be more than just beautiful. It had to be healthy, sustainable, and built to last. That’s why Yolk House was designed to Passive House standards, ensuring fresh air, comfortable temperatures year-round, and minimal energy use.

The design takes inspiration from the river’s history. The local Indigenous people once relied on this waterway, rich with short-finned eel—a symbol of sustenance and connection. In their honour, we named the home "Yolk House," with "Yolk" meaning eel in the local language. The shape of the roof reflects the curved spine of an eel, flowing gently over the two wings of the home.

One wing is designed for everyday life, with a cosy living, dining, kitchen, and master bedroom. The other wing is for family, providing extra bedrooms and a flexible space for guests. The layout is shaped to catch the northern sun, filling the home with warmth and natural light.

Yolk House is being built with precision prefabrication, a method that ensures exceptional quality, reduced waste, and faster construction. Every detail has been carefully considered to create a home that is as functional as it is meaningful.

This is more than just a house—it’s a legacy. A place for family to gather, grow, and continue sharing stories for generations to come.
